Welcome to The Bolingbrook Philharmonic Orchestra!

Meet one of the newest orchestras in the United States and learn about our mission!

Hello there, and welcome to our site! We are The Bolingbrook Philharmonic Orchestra, and we are a new semi-professional community orchestra whose mission is to bring high quality interpretations of classical music alongside some of America's top orchestras!

In many ways, the world of classical music is changing, and many of the world's orchestras, while still deliver high quality recordings of the great masters, have grown into a new way of interpreting those masters, often changing many aspects of their compositions to fit the feelings of their critics, often by doubling certain passages that don't need to be doubled, taking slower tempi, and occasionally using rather weak dynamics than the composer intended. Because of this, many older members of the classical music community don't like the way that the music is interpreted and rather would prefer the way the music was performed by conductors of the 20th century. That's where we come in!

Us musicians here at The Bolingbrook Philharmonic believe in the way music was performed originally, with faster tempi and not tampering with the orchestration of the composer unless it is absolutely necessary. Although many different conductors have different philosophies on how the music should be performed, this can sometimes not work in the favor of those conductors and they can often earn bad reviews from critics and heavy scrutiny from classical music aficionados from being sloppy, slow and weak.

In order to do this, we delve into the way that music was performed in the era of the composer that we are playing in an upcoming concert. We would do so by seeing how the composers wrote for the instrument when they play during a certain part of their piece and we try to understand why the composer did so. In doing this, we learn not only about the history of the composer, but also why they made the orchestration choices that they did and what makes their music really shine when it was performed originally. This is especially true for the early romantics like Ludwig van Beethoven as well as other composers after him and beyond. We are able to help people see music for what it was and why it is so loved by many music lovers everywhere.

In Closing:

We are so very excited to have you be a part of our community and helping us in our mission to help bring high quality performances of music from the Baroque era to the music of the 21st Century, as we believe everyone's music deserves to be played, whether they are well known or simply footnotes in music history. We will do our very very best to bring only the best of our performances to every venue we perform in to make sure you truly get your worth when you see a symphony orchestra. We'll see you in the Concert Hall!
